Battery lifespan, range per charge and charging time answer different questions. There is no single month, hour or mileage figure that applies to every electric wheelchair. Use the exact battery and charger documentation and monitor performance under comparable conditions.
Three figures to keep separate
| Measure | What it means | What changes it |
|---|---|---|
| Service life | How long the battery remains suitable for your use before replacement is needed. | Battery design, age, use, charge history, storage and damage. |
| Range per charge | Distance available under specified conditions. | Load, surface, slopes, temperature, stops and battery condition. |
| Charging time | Time required by the approved charger and its program. | Battery capacity, remaining charge, charger output and conditions. |
Current YS16 rated-range comparison
The YS16-1 MAX 12Ah lists a 24V 12Ah lead-acid battery and up to 15 miles of rated range under suitable conditions. The 20Ah version lists a 24V 20Ah lead-acid battery and up to 20 miles. Do not treat these figures as guaranteed travel distance or infer proportional range from Ah alone.
Plan around the full trip
Include the outward journey, return, detours and a reserve. Begin with conservative routes and follow the manual; do not deliberately run the battery to exhaustion to establish a maximum. If usual range changes substantially, record the circumstances and contact support rather than assuming the battery alone is responsible.
Follow the battery-specific care instructions
- Use only the approved compatible charger, connection sequence and charging schedule.
- Follow temperature and ventilation requirements for charging and storage.
- Do not apply a universal state-of-charge percentage or disconnect interval to every battery chemistry.
- Do not deliberately deep-discharge for a supposed memory effect or generic calibration.
- Do not change chemistry, add capacity, rewire a pack or substitute a fast charger without model-specific approval.
When to seek service
Stop using or charging equipment with visible battery damage, leakage, swelling, unusual heat, burning odor or other abnormal behavior. Contact qualified support and follow its handling instructions. Do not open a battery or attempt electrical tests without the necessary training and model-specific procedure.
For reduced range or unusual charger behavior without an immediate damage sign, note the model, battery label, charger, symptoms and usage conditions. A qualified service provider can assess the battery and related components. Use an approved battery recycling or hazardous-waste service for disposal.
Warranty and buying decisions
Read the current limited warranty for coverage and exclusions; an expected battery lifespan is not a warranty promise. Optional body-parts coverage excludes the battery. Compare the YS16 configurations on fit, route and loading weight, and contact service and parts for current battery instructions or replacement requirements.
